Each player is dealt 13 cards. The goal is to form valid sequences and sets from those 13 cards and declare before your opponents — all while keeping your unmatched card points as low as possible across multiple rounds so you are never eliminated.

Valid Sequences and Sets

A pure sequence is three or more consecutive cards of the same suit with no Joker involved — for example, 7♠ 8♠ 9♠. You need at least one pure sequence to make a valid declaration. An impure sequence allows a Joker to substitute for a missing card. A set is three or four cards of the same rank but different suits — for example, K♥ K♦ K♣.

The Joker Rule

Each game at gerya uses one printed Joker plus one randomly selected wild card Joker. Jokers carry zero points, making them the most valuable cards to hold when you are running a high unmatched count late in a round.

Invalid Declaration Penalty

If you declare without meeting the minimum sequence requirements, you receive an 80-point penalty added to your cumulative score immediately. This is one of the most punishing mistakes in Pool Rummy, particularly in the 101 variant where it can trigger instant elimination.

How a Round Plays Out

At the start of each round, 13 cards are dealt to every player at the table. The top card from the remaining deck is placed face-up to begin the open pile, and a random wild Joker card is revealed for that session. Play proceeds clockwise — on your turn, you draw one card from either the closed deck or the open pile, then discard one card to the open pile.

The round ends when a player arranges all 13 cards into valid groups and places the final discard face-down, signaling a declaration. gerya's platform validates the declaration automatically in real time. Valid declarations eliminate zero points from the winner for that round. All other players at the table count the unmatched card points left in their hand and that total is added to their cumulative score.

Play continues through subsequent rounds. A player who reaches or exceeds the pool limit (101 or 201 points) is eliminated from the table. The prize pool is locked at the start and is awarded in full to the final remaining player. Rejoining a Table
